I occasionally write in a journal my aunt gave me when I was little. I thought it was blank, but I stumbled across this page today. It made me smile.

It's the 300th day of the year!
This picture was taken last Fall when I went camping with a few friends at the lake. We woke up early in the morning to find a splendid sunrise. Makes me wanna go camping again.

Day two hundred and ninety.

Monday. October 17, 2011
Somewhere along the line I screwed up my daily numbering system. I think it happened in June. I don't feel like searching for that glitch, or editing all of the dates since that time, so I will leave the days as they are and start anew. Today is the 290th day of the year, not 271st.

I've been trying to run longer, as I signed up for a marathon right around the corner. This morning I ran while listening to Born to Run on audio book.

“Vigil couldn't quite put his finger on it, but his gut kept telling him that there was some kind of connection between the capacity to love and the capacity to love running. The engineering was certainly the same: both depended on loosening your grip on your own desires, putting aside what you wanted and appreciating what you got, being patient and forgiving and undemanding.”

National Coming Out Day is observed October 11 and celebrates those who publicly identify as bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender. Caroline and I listened to a few stories at a vigil happening Tuesday night. I had never been to one before, nor did I know anything about NCOD before today. I admire those individuals who stood in front of an audience to share there stories. Some were light-hearted, but I could see most testimonies were not easy to tell.

Day two hundred and eighty two.

Monday. Oct 10, 2011

Sometimes I peer into that deep dark void and wonder what stories lay inside- words to family members and friends states and continents away- letters with weight, with love, with sympathy, with sorrow, with congratulations. Thoughts someone took the time to write down and send away for a price. Or perhaps just a phone bill. The intangible turns into something physical, visible, readable, and lasting. Of course, letter writing today isn't as common as it once was--but one can appreciate the pastime.

I went in to the dentist for a cleaning. They said it was time for my full mouth x-ray. They had me take out my earrings and stand with my head inside a plastic rotating machine while I bit down on cotton. Why I "needed" this full mouth x-ray, I'm still unsure- but the technology behind it is pretty neat.
