Monday, Sept. 26, 2011 Tonight I sat in on a visiting artist presentation--Teri Frame showed some of her very unique work, in which the human body is the center for her research. Teri is an internationally recognized clay performance artist. Check out what she does!
Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011 This is Lily, the ol' gorilla skeleton that stands in our Physical Anthropology lab. It's interesting to compare our skeleton to her skeleton, and at times it's helpful to look at Lily as a reference when spotting certain features, since they're large and defined.
Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 3-D Design abstract vessel forms. So far my form has 5 layers of paper mache, 1 roll of masking tape, and 2 coats of gesso primer. I'm excited to give it some color!
I watched a "Movies on the Grass" showing- A Small Act.
It was heart-warming.
"When Hilde Back sponsored a young, rural Kenyan student, she thought nothing of it. She certainly never expected to hear from him, but years later she does. Now a Harvard graduate and a Human Rights Lawyer for the United Nations, Chris Mburu decides to find the stranger that changed his life. Inspired by her generosity, he starts a scholarship program of his own and names it for his former benefactor."
Putting some hours into a Deconstruction Project for Drawing II.
For this assignment we were to draw an image or still life and deconstruct sections of it, making them larger or smaller, or repeating certain sections around the page.
Friday, Sept. 8, 2011 Brooke and I traveled to the Uptown Theater in Kansas City to see Bon Iver in concert. The place was packed with warm bodies and beautiful sounds. It was a great show.
Wed. Sept. 7, 2011 Lucky number seven, that's where we are.
I hadn't received any mail at the new place until today. A special person in my life sent me a letter and a much needed bike light. I sometimes wonder what it would be like to live in the days where words traveled through mail carriers on horseback, like the Pony Express and other means. How monumental it must have been to hear the "latest" news from dear friends and family members.
Tues. Sept. 6, 2011 Those bits of paper are covering the names of skull landmarks, features, and sutures we needed to memorize for our Wednesday quiz in the Physical Anthropology Lab. This is quite difficult for me, being in the Arts, and having not taken an anatomy class ever. Still, I've really enjoyed the push to learn.
Some favorites: Inion- because it sounds like minion, which further reminds me of Dr. Evil. Bregma Nasospinale- Jerry Spinelli? Lambda- the meeting place of the sagittal and lambdoidal sutures. The junction of the two parietal bones with the occipital. External Auditory Meatus- otherwise known as the ear canal
Monday, Sept. 5, 2011 We thought it'd be cool to each have some blonde somewhere in our brown hairs. But, for some reason our Do-it-Yourself dye didn't work out--except for a tiny bit on Andy's fohawk. Maybe it was for the best.
Friday. Sept. 2, 2011 Yikes. My daily photo updates are becoming less frequent. This is mostly because classes have started, and it's a busy semester. I've also separated myself from the Facebook world, at least for a month or so. While I do see the benefits of having FB, it's a wonderful thing to be in real life--to speak face-to-face, or hear someone's voice through the telephone. I don't want to find out via heart-shaped icons and status updates that a person is getting married, or having another baby. Especially if I barely know this person (but Facebook be-friended them anyway). There are many pros and cons, so I'll stop there. But I will say it's been a change for the better. Friday-Saturday I went on a retreat with Ichthus, the church I am a part of. It was great to be in a place where the busy noises of every day life are far away.
Today I stumbled upon these dandy leave prints embedded in the sidewalk. They must've crept into the cement as it was drying, and have since been rubbed away by weathering, walking, and time.
Also, the temperature around mid-afternoon read 109 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm ready for that Fall breeze and those bright orange leaves.
Tues. August 30, 2011
In my Drawing II class we've been sketching scenes composed of natural and architectural components. I liked the look of this buttressed tower, and the cardinal by the window.
